About Us

The latest project of the trust is the building of a Carriage Storage Shed at Bodmin Parkway.

Bodmin Parkway has been used as long term storage sidings for many years but vehicles left here suffer from the cold and the damp.   The new purpose built building will protect those vehicles waiting to be restored as well as those used infrequently.  The Railway hopes to gain more historic vehicles in the future and this will be the ideal storage location.  This project has been entirely funded by the Trust.

About the Bodmin & Wenford Railway Trust

The Trust was formed in 1987 to enable the developing B&W Railway to take advantage of such grants, reliefs and donations as might be available.  It is a Charitable Company limited by guarantee.

Its principal Objects are to encourage and support the retention and support of our railway  heritage and to promote education in the same, especially but not exclusively in relation to the Bodmin area.

In pursuance of these aims, the Trust has

  1. Contributed substantially to the infrastructure of the B&W Railway in such areas as trackwork, signalling, engine sheds and station buildings.

  2. Acquired items of historic interest and value, and is actively seeking a site to display these to the public.

  3. Restored and converted a coach for educational purposes.

  4. Acquired a number of historic locomotives and coaches which it hires to the B&WR and other preserved railways.

  5. Financed major repairs to GWR 2-8-0 Tank engine No. 4247, on a long term running agreement with its owners.

  6. Substantially funded the restoration of SR Bulleid Pacific ‘Wadebridge’ No. 34007 and  GW Heavy Freight No. 3802 locomotives.

This has been largely achieved with the generous help of Trust Director Alan Moore CBE, which we gratefully acknowledge
